Pre/post sports massage
This is intended as a stimulating massage through loose/comfortable clothing or over towels, so no need to undress! If used before sporting events, this is designed to ensure greater flexibility and mobility in the soft tissue and joints. This can be beneficial in prevention of muscles pulls, tears and cramp, since the muscles will have a greater degree of suppleness. (Remember it is still important to warm up and stretch before any physical exercise/activity, and to warm down and stretch post exercise, particularly so in cold weather.)
As part of a post exercise regime it is a great way to dispel excessive lactic acid from the muscles which causes the feeling of stiffness, soreness and pain. (You will also find that stretching and icing inflamed areas will be very useful.) This massage will help the body to recuperate more speedily. And, in the longer term, it can help improve performance as you will be able to train longer and harder with a reduced risk of injury and improved recovery post event.
The KEY EFFECTS of this form of massage are: -
Induce relaxation in tight muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (the soft tissue);
Increase flexibility in the soft tissues through stretching and resistance movements;
Improve joint mobility;
Excellent for those who exercise moderately but are not quite so good with stretching before and after exercise;
Can be useful as part of a competitive sports programme, either before or after competition;
For those who wish to use a form of massage for their personal health care plan;
Ideal for busy people who only have 30 minutes to spare but feel that their suppleness is being impaired;
And lastly, for those who wish to create for themselves a better, more efficient and effective balance between work and home life.
